Saturday 10th June saw League leaders Bidborough bring their 100% record to Hollingbourne.
As is now traditional, the day began with a lost toss and the Bidborough Captain decided to make us set them a total by asking us bat first. With just 10 runs on the board, we lost our leading run scorer this season, Andy Griffiths falling to a caught and bowled from James Poulsom. A bad start to our innings was not improved when we lost our Skipper with the score having only been moved on to 40. At this point, Lewis Bedwell came to the crease and by drinks, at 20 overs we were making slow progress at 60 for 2.
Lewis and Dave Latter started the recovery, and by the time Dave was removed for 40 we had a much more healthy 108 for 3. Lewis was then joined by Dave Charlton and the pair managed some big shots before Lewis was out for 66 (6 fours and 4 sixes) and Dave succumbed on 45 (6 fours and 1 six). The score kept racing on with Miles Henslow smashing 2 fours and 3 sixes on his way to a quickfire 30.
Our slow start had turned into a pretty respectable 224 for 7 from our 40 overs.
After tea, the Bidborough openers took to the field in search of the 225 they needed for victory and to maintain their undefeated record at the summit of the division.
Bidborough’s chase started even less successfully than our own innings as opener, Owen Blackhurst, was run out with the score at just 2. The bowling side then took control, with openers Miles Henslow and Adam Doggett ending up with 2 and 3 wickets respectively. First change bowlers Lewis Bedwell and Dan Pritchard ended up with 2 wickets a piece as the league leader’s batting line up was dismantled for just 58.
With another maximum point haul in the bag at home, we leapfrogged Bidborough to first place in the league and now have a narrow 2 point lead at the top.
